Before You Begin: A Few Key Points

To avoid contamination, always work in a clean environment. Wash your hands thoroughly, and make sure surfaces, including sinks and taps, are clean. Your kit is sensitive to contamination, so keeping everything sterile is super important.

The right location is also essential: choose a hygienic, draught-free and mould-free spot in the house, with a constant temperature. Provide a place with enough daylight, but without direct sunlight. Never put the kit on the floor to avoid contamination.

To provide you with the best growing experience, we have included a hygienic grow bag. If you choose to use your own materials or follow a different method than our grow guide, please note that we cannot guarantee the quality of your harvest.

Step 1: Preparation and Setup

Remove the lid from the grow kit and set it aside—you’ll need it later. Avoid placing the kit on the floor to reduce the risk of contamination.

Step 2: Making Holes

Using a clean fork, gently make holes in the top of the substrate. About 6-8 rows should do it. This allows the substrate to better absorb water.

Step 3: Soaking the Kit

Fill the kit with clean, lukewarm water (20°C), place the lid back on, and let it soak for 30-60 minutes (minimum 5 minutes, maximum 1 hour).

Step 4: Draining Excess Water

After soaking, remove the lid and pour out the excess water carefully. Let the kit drain for about 10 seconds.

Step 5: Setting Up the Grow Bag

Add about 0.25L of clean, lukewarm water (20°C) (0.5L for the 2100CC kit) into the grow bag. Then, place the grow kit inside, making sure the water doesn’t touch the top of the substrate.

Step 6: Sealing the Grow Bag

Seal the grow bag by folding the top and securing it with the paperclip provided.

Step 7: Initial Growth Stage

Place the kit in a well-lit spot (but avoid direct sunlight). Keep the bag sealed until you see pre-pins. This can take 1-4 weeks depending on the temperature. At this stage, the kit needs high CO₂ levels, so be patient and keep the bag closed.
(Still no growth after 4 weeks? Don’t throw away the kit yet! Take pictures of your grow kit & growing location and contact our Customer Service).

Step 8: Maintaining Growth

Once pre-pins appear, open the bag briefly everyday to let in fresh air. Mist the sides of the bag with clean water (1-2 sprays). Avoid spraying directly on the mushrooms.

Step 9: Harvesting

When the veil under the mushroom cap starts to tear, it’s time to harvest. Gently twist the mushrooms from the base and pull them out.

Getting Ready for the Second Flush

After your first harvest, you can soak your grow kit again and give it a ‘cold shock’ to start a second round of growing (‘flush’). This cold treatment activates the mycelium and stimulates a new growth cycle. To start a second flush, clean the surface of the cake, fill the kit with clean, lukewarm water (20°C) and place the lid on the kit. Put your kit in the fridge and leave it overnight. Then continue from step 4.
